Soft Delicate Hues Of Blue

It’s been a long time since I did any journaling pages so I decided to give the little canvas book that I made an airing.  You can see the book here.

Bring On The Sunshine For Those Crafting Days

Off for a sleep over tomorrow with my crafty friend, feel like a teenager again when I say that.

Can anyone remember those weekend sleepovers when you were younger?  I’m sure it definitely wasn’t craft on the mind then, as far as I can remember me thinks boys were the main topic of conversation!!!

Summer for the schoolkids here starts really early (compared to the UK) because today is their last day of school until September.  Can you Adam and Eve it, nearly three months off!!  My crafty friend works full time at a school so she has all the school holidays off … wahoooo … lots of lazy crafting days ahead and a holiday to look forward to.

One Step At A Time

Decisions, decisions about what page to show next.

My tissue paper bird (from my tissue paper bitty box) decided the colours and the format of this page.

After all the fun of layering paints, paste, die cuts, stamps and more on top of each other another page was born.

More journaling Pages

Hope your days weather is better than ours.  Not much that a girl can do when it’s like this apart from … ummmm let me think now …. get messy and alter something with bitumen paint!!!

Firstly I am showing two more pages from my book which I started to show here.  Everything is quite self explanatory really lots of inking, stamping and stencilling.

Filled a few of my little water brushes with Dylusions inks and used these for the colouring in of the toadstools and bird.

Journaling Book

Before I start something new I decided to show a journalling book that I started last year … the precise date is 14th April 2013.  Impressed that I can remember making it, cheated really, if you look at the first pic you can see that Neil Walker signed the page for me.

Met Neil  the day before at Ally Pally (Saturday, 13th April 2013) and I loved his displayed work so we got talking.  He mentioned he was doing a workshop at The Craft Barn the next day and as it is not far from where my son lives my crafty friend and I went.  At the end of the workshop I asked if he would sign my page.

We covered so many fab techniques including using a credit card with paints, spreading paint with a palette knife, doodling among many others.

It helps to sign and date your journaling pages because you can look back and see where the journey started and where it is going.

Also I know that maybe Amber or Lauren will love these books sometime in the future (says she) and to have the date when grandma made it will be a talking point.

Made these two pages, in the same book, on 12th May 2014 (over a year later) with the usual painting, stamping, molding paste, stencilling, paper napkins and inks.  This even has some gold embossing on it.

Signed and dated in the bottom left hand corner the next page is the top left hand corner.  Just find a space and away you go!!!

Finished quite a few pages in the book and have taken photos so guess what you will be seeing over the next few days!!!

Like Clockwork

Fashionable Stamping Challenges this fortnight have a terrific theme of  “Like Clockwork” which was picked by our very own Yvonne.

Thank you Alison … Words and Pictures … who chose our fabulous theme from last week

Made a canvas book for my FSC piece this fortnight, decorated the front with loads of clocks and covered two of the pages inside with yet more clocks.

A very easy book to make – just cut two sheets of A4 canvas in half, add a cover and stitch down the middle using a running back stitch.  The cover is corecard run through a clock mask which was then sanded away to reveal the clocks before inking.  With the same mask I added texture paste.

Stitching the middle works better than gluing plus I added a calico like fabric to the inside of the cover … purely for strengthening purposes.  Chose a cream material that was mostly plain but had a very bold flower pattern on it.

The little stamped face was placed over a die of an alarm clock and the ornate mantle clock came from a Hero Arts set.

Kept the inside pages almost monochromatic because I am in love with browns and blacks at the moment.

The left hand side is the calico material and the right is the canvas.  Gave the canvas a coat of gesso before I did anything with it but the calico was worked on with nothing added.

This shows the cream calico material on the back cover, how gorgeous is that flower?

I would love it if you hopped on over to see all the DT’s work as they are simply stunning.  Also don’t forget that the winner of this challenge has $20 to choose anything they like from Flonz’s store.

New Foray

Well here goes … this is my first foray into the world of journalling …
basically it’s me finally attacking a new venture of Art Journalling.

Long post so sit down with a cuppa/wine and let the

Journey Begin

Went to a craft extravaganza in Athlone yesterday hosted by Kate from Create With Kate and joined Karen’s class where a few of us started on another journey in the world of crafting. Wish you could have seen us, we had such a ball plus my fingers look as if they have been living in a coal bucket.

I have been dabbling for ages … just haven’t had enough confidence to show all the weird experiments which I have been doing.

Come on you all know what it’s like when you try something new nothing is good enough. I just needed a gentle shove in my confidence and that is what I got from Karen yesterday so a huge thank you sweetie pie because this is where my journey into journalling will begin.

I bought the Dylusions Journal but will definitely NOT be using until I am ready … that’s the neat freak in me, just don’t want to mess it up … OK those little minds are whirring and saying … “but isn’t this a messy craft Shirley”!!!! … I know sad or what 😯

We started three pages in a gorgeous book which we were given (guess what I didn’t want to mess this up either, just wanted to stroke it) using different mediums so below you will see the before piccies and one of the pages completely finished .. tah dah … here goes … what do you think?

Be gentle with those comments please I feel fragile enough with this new venture!!!! 😀 but also I would like your comments on where you think I am going wrong. The quicker I learn the quicker I can use my new book (ummmm maybe, might just stroke this forever)… enough of the waffling here goes …

Before piccies which I really was very pleased with.
When I showed my work to Andrew this morning I so wished I had the camera in my hand, the look on his face was priceless. I’m sure he was thinking …

OMG not sure which Shirley I would rather have. The one who used to clean the house like a maniac and move all the furniture so that in the night I bumped into something which wasn’t there the day before or the Shirley who spent so much money on card stuff and hasn’t used most of it. Wow what is this going to cost me now!!!!

He of little faith, wait until he knows there is a buyer out there just waiting to part with mega bucks for one of these pages!!! Seriously, he never said a word.

Relax babykins I have most of the stuff … (she says with her fingers crossed behind her back only a little white lie, OK maybe a huge whopper).

This is one of the pages finished and I am totally in love with it … can’t wait to finish the other two … wahoo.

In Karen’s book, she had a page which I fell in love with and I so want to make someday, so watch this space for more pages in my little book … still not using my new dylusions book just yet.
