Last Saturday’s class was all about finishing a canvas that we started a few weeks ago.
Needle, cotton and material were used to make the beautiful flower and the image is from G45, “A Ladies Diary”. Lots of other elements were used on the canvas but nothing could escape the gesso, crackle medium or acrylic paint.
Not long back from the UK for Alex’s birthday, he has just turned 16!!!! Flitting back and forth to the UK for my three grandchildren’s birthdays is the norm for me at this time of year.
Being at home this time worked out really well as I was able to go to the Sandown Park Craft Show. Clare, Lauren and myself even managed to get into a make and take with the MDF Man.
For this week’s class instead of making a card we made a very pretty Victorian Bobbin Reel. This was done with a toilet roll and two die cut circles. The classes are only two hours long, which always extends into three, so the girls didn’t get to finish and had to take home to complete.
Long time since I have done pretty pretty and this ‘Bobbin Reel’ is extremely sweet looking.
When the bow is untied the linen, lace and burlap, which I stitched one on top of the other to form a band, unravels and reveals some very pretty ephemera inside.
The sewing machine even made an appearance along with some white paint but I went quite sparingly with the stamping.
Most of the things used on this piece are all elements that didn’t make the muster on other projects so were thrown into a bit box.
Graphic 45 are some of the papers used inside the roll which is such a great way to use up those odds and ends of paper snippets.
Started this page a while back but because I caught Mr Nasty Cold have only just got around to finishing.
Have a few journalling books on the go, this one is the A4 size.
The photos below shows the first half of the two pages with a few added embellishments.
The second side I decided on no embellishments because I wanted to keep it uncluttered
Sharing some of my Junk Journal with you today which Irene and I started whilst facetiming last week.
Stumbled across these Journals whilst mooching on Youtube. Didn’t follow any particular video – just got some ideas. So if you want to make your own just type in Junk Journal and have a mooch. The book so far has three signature sections which were hand sewn into place and I am toying with putting in a fourth. Just about anything goes with these books
Already there are lots of pages and I want to add more elements so the fastening to shut the book had to be flexible to be able to do this.
Decided on an old necklace clasp which was lurking in the depths of my bit drawers which worked really well.
Close up of the clasp shows how robust it is and also the showing of the inside pages.
Lots more pages to follow showing the vellum, tags, lace, parchment paper, doilies and loads of other materials used.
Class makes are part and parcel of my weekends plus the girls are all so experienced now that each week becomes a challenge of what to make for them.
The challenge is the best part and what I love most about this card was the working out of the gatefold and how to incorporate the die and a pop out element.
I chose the Distressed Doily die to form the edges and some very pretty digital images to adorn the card.
The card opens to reveal the gorgeous G45 stamp which was stamped onto cream cardstock then cut out.
The inside drops open to reveal a pop out element where we added a couple of digi vintage postcards. The frame was die cut then placed over one of the images.
The girls all love to fussy cut so I printed more digi ladies onto cardstock for them to cut out and add to the back of the card.
Everything closes flat for posting and fits perfectly into a 6″ x 6″ envelope.
In the end this turned out to be a project that just didn’t stop.

Desperately wanted somewhere to keep my ephemera goodies of Tim’s and also wanted to decorate the box which I bought from the MDF man at Ally Pally in 2012 … yep had it that long. The goodies fitted perfectly in the box, which you can see here if you want to see the post. This left a lot of room at the top so next came the album.
Finally cut into the Menagerie paper pad which wasn’t as bad as I first thought, what is it with me and papers? I am always the last to show off papers used because I can’t bring myself to show them the scissors. Used a variety of G45 papers from different pads which was teamed up with Tim’s.
Lots of stamping, fussy cutting, pasting through stencils and painting with pearlised translucent paint leaves me one happy bunny. Totally love this album so keeping it for myself oh and the box, sorry Amber!!
See how much space was left even after adding Tim’s ephemera packs so I designed the album to fit perfectly and to leave room so it comes out easily.
Remember all the rage about faux leather well I have lots made and that’s how I did the strap for the buckle. Glued two pieces together before cutting to the right size and stitching around for added strength.

First page of an envelope album which I started the other day but as you can see here I have sailed away on a different path yet again. This is definitely what crafting is all about, just go with the flow!!
This time I have used a different stamp for the front which is from Indigo Blu called Dancing Children. First used this stamp here but only showed the girls from the end, today you can see all the stamp..
Originally I wanted the album to be a little sophisticated but then veered off and went for a Springtime feel. Because our weather at the moment is so unpredictable … should be Spring by now … I went with a scene that looks as our weather does … storms, snow and in between some beautiful sunshine. Background paper is a G45 sheet.
Made the background by first stamping then masking off before adding DI’s Ripe Persimmon and a mixture of Mustard Seed plus Squeezed Lemonade. Did the flick technique with water and when dry blended some Black Soot and sprayed a little of the Dylusions White Linen. Coloured the children with a mixture of Copic Markers, really enjoyed getting them out and having a play something I haven’t done in ages.
Have to show more later as I am off to start my class project for today!!!
Made this little Matchbox with two new stamps I bought a while ago and only just getting round to using them. They look so medieval (quite gothic in fact) that I wanted to create a touch of opulance to the mix so added some gold embossing powder randomly around the edges which gave me the distressed look I was aiming for. One image was stamped with Versafine black and the other with Versafine Vintage Sepia.
Made the match box with a Stampin Up Envelope maker … this little gadget is super cool … then used Gesso to dilute the colour of the papers on the outside. Tim’s Harlequin stencil came into play but only a little also used some of the DI Seedless Preserves for her hair.
Opened the box a little for the next pic and the last one shows off the other stamped image inside. Only used a few embellies to enhance the images, a bit of gold beading and two buttons.

Only just seen that Graphic 45 have a DT call and I think you all know by now that they are my fave papers of all time. Only problem is that I have to wait forever to get my mitts on any of the new designs they release. It’s a slim chance because I know there are going to be hundreds of entrants but as the title says … “In It To Win It”. Here goes:
First criteria is to create a blog post with a minimum of 6 projects. These do not have to include G45 products but they would prefer.
The first two projects are unseen before so lots of photos to show but the next 3 projects are older posts so I have just left links for these.
Loved this wallet so much that I decided to make another but this time with all Graphic 45 papers and stamps. The papers are from the Typography collection and A Ladies Diary. Also used the stamps from A Ladies Diary and the Secret Garden.
This pic shows what the inside looks like when the wallet is fully open. Covered the front of a flip over paper pad then covered the pen to match. Made a little tag pocket into which I inserted a stitched vellum envelope and again added a tag and another G45 pic.
The front opening has a magnetic disc behind the papers so it just snaps shut. Love all the stamps and fussy cut embellies – they enhance the project perfectly.
It was so hard to choose a topper to cover the front of the pad but this is such an apt quote that I had to go with it. I masked off the Secret Garden stamp because I only wanted the word secret and the little bird on the pad.
Onto my next make which is my file folder box. This was finished in January but only just getting around to posting. Made it to house all the cards I make in advance for my family this year. As you can see the Graphic 45 papers are out in force again and this time its the A Place In Time Collection. Made the box from scratch with a friend of mine and what a time we had banging our heads together with the measurements. Total chaos at times but the end result was worth it.
Used the grey board for the box which was covered with embossed cardstock then given a coat of dark blue chalk paint before gilding wax was added. Reinforced the back edges and the feet are cotton reels. The side bags are for any notes I might want to add about anyone’s card.
The box lid has pics of the family which I printed onto tissue paper then added with mod podge. Placed the image of the boys together in the clock then ripped through the numbers.
Designed the box such that the front just drops down so all the folders, with the cards in, are easily accessible.

I made another of the “Nuts & Bolt” album as I call them, with my SIL Irene, but this time with Graphic 45 papers called Coutour. The last one I made was primarily stamping which you can see here and here but this one is very little stamping and more about the papers.
Who shows the last page first … well I had a play around with my graphics program again and liked the background, looks super cool eh!!! Loved the result of what I did here so played again.
I can hear you saying less of the playing and more of the showing Shirl!!!
OK here is the first page with some molding paste and ink through a stencil. Just to hi-light those super fussy cut pieces.
Each tag has a number, die cut from the movers and shapers magnetic set called Cargo, with a different embossing folder being used for each black page.
Fussy cut the tickets and also the prim and proper Miss Madam sitting in the chair.
Also mixed some of the papers from the French Country collection from Graphic 45.
Wife to Andrew (best hubby in the world), mother of 2 wonderful boys and hopefully the best grandma to three beautiful grandchildren, oh can't forget my other babies Penny Black & Chip!
