One Of Those Spooky Moments

Definitely had a spooky moment this morning when I visited Yvonne’s blog Meggy’s Way as she was showing a card that she had made with coffee stirrers!!!

The spooky part is that last Thursday I was crafting with a friend who was having a clear out of her old stash.  She had loads of coffee sticks that she had collected from various coffee shops (as you do!!!) and she was going to bin them because she didn’t know what to do with them.  Also she had something new in her stash, Gelatos which she had bought on my recommendation.

Did a quick make for her where I combined 4 of the coffee sticks to make a frame and used the Gelatos for the background to give her a few ideas.

Didn’t get to finish the card whilst with Pam so I took it home with me ready to finish off.  Finished it this morning ready to take the photos.

Delayed the photo taking, as usual, by having a quick hop around blogland and … woah … when I hopped onto Yvonne’s blog she had posted a card where she had used ….. coffee stirrers.  Now tell me that’s not spooky.

The coffee cup, world and the globe are all stamps from Stampin Up.  The pics are from the Ephemera Pack by Tim Holtz.

Crackled Paper Petals

Playing with string and flowers again which is such an easy way to use up all those mulberry paper flowers that we all have in our stash.  Added more dimension to the card this time by using crackle paste on the petals.  It made the card more interesting also when I added some other images and a die cut as well.

Playtime Tag

Had a very quick play with my Gelatos which Andrew bought as one of my Christmas pressies.

I am in love!!!  They make the quickest and easiest backgrounds.

Who Saves Old Toilet Rolls

OK no jokes about the whiff please, Irene has said enough for everyone lol but finally … after not having a bath or shower for a week (because of the op on my leg) … I had a long, long soak last night so that the stitches would dissolve.  The leg now looks like the colours I have used on my box  (black and purple)!!!!  The stocking stays on during the day for two more weeks but it can come off at night, phew that will be a relief in itself.  Irene and myself have still been Skypeing and crafting which has been a life saver for me.

How many of you does this happen to, you reach over for a paintbrush, which happens to be kept in an old plastic mug, and they all fall over with brushes falling everywhere?  Got so fed up with this happening that an idea started to form in my head.  Plus the satisfaction of making something from start to finish without knowing how it is going to turn out is a real buzz.

These are some of the items which I started with, which I am sure you recognise, toilet roll holders and a block of wood getting a once over with black gesso.

Below is the finished make and also a few before and after pics.  No measurements are given because everyone uses different loo rolls so each make would end up a different size.  My box ended up being, 6″  x   5  1/2″   x   4 1/2″    Hopefully from the pics you can see where I was going with the plan and the block of wood at the bottom makes it very heavy which gives the stability to the whole project.  The ladies peeking out of the window remind me of “The Ladies Of The Night”, what do you think??

A bit further on with the project and the loo rolls were also painted black before adding to the block of wood.  Grey board sides were added (recycled from my bit basket, some far away project which never made the grade).  Starting to take shape now.

All frames are cut from the Tim Holtz Window Box die which I crackled and painted.  Paint colour is called Amethyst from the JOFY  Limited Edition  at PaperArtsy  and used with some black gesso.  Crackle paste was used with the Fluer-de-lis stencil mask.  Only a teensy tiny bit of stamping  and this was mainly on the odd bits of G45 paper.  I did stamp on the bottom of the box just to tie it all together.

Entering into the challenge at Artist Trading Post called ‘Lets Celebrate’ – I am celebrating the fact that my brushes won’t be rolling all over my desk anymore … YAY!!!

Nikki from A Vintage Journey has chosen a theme of ‘Let’s Celebrate’ which is the same as the above challenge.  You also have to say for this challenge what influences you from Tim Holtz.  For me it’s always his dies, they are my all time favourite cutting dies.

Mr Brush Box is now sitting proudly on my craft desk and what a gorgeous thing it is to look at.

VSC Wants To See A Christmas Song

Vintage Stamping Challenges has a Christmas Song challenge theme this month.  This means you can make anything as long as it has a Christmas song or carol.

The stamp I chose from Flonzcrafts, which you can find here, is called’ Mother Reading Book For Children’ which fitted in just nicely.  Coloured mainly with DI’s  – Peeled Paint and Barn Door but also added a white hi-lighter pen and coloured pencils.  Ripped a piece of  G45 paper from the ‘Twelve Days Of Christmas’  collection and the other paper was from my stash.

I can so remember myself sitting on the sofa, when my boys were younger, and reading to them just as this mother is doing.  What an age ago that was but how happy the memories make me feel.

Scottish Vote

Sadly my Mum passed away 14 years ago and even though she married an Englishman and lived in England for most of her life she was a Scot through and through.  Two of my brothers were born in Scotland and I can remember many nostalgic summer holidays on the banks of Loch Lomond with my Granddad and cousins.  If Mum were alive today I definitely know which way she would have voted in the Scottish referendum!!!!

This is my Mum with two of my brothers,Robert and David.  Mum was extremely beautiful and had the most luxurious thick curly hair.  My granddaughter Amber has inherited her Great Grandmothers pretty looks and also her thick curly hair.

Fashionable Stamping Challenges this fortnight have a theme of  “Trees In Autumn Colours”.

The background of trees is from Stampin Up called – Lovely As A Tree and the adorable young lady reading is from Flonzcrafts here.  Coloured her with copics and used black and white gesso for the hair.  She is also sitting on a bed of distress powders.  Stamped the leaves from the SU French Foliage and cut out before sprinkling with the  effect powders.  Used G45 papers for the background.

Used Tim Holtz  distress effect powders then I found that CC3C has a challenge for these.  Inspiration Emporium

Entering For: Compendium Of Curiosities 3, Challenge II – Effect Powders Technique which can be found on Page 52 of his book.  You can also see all the details of how to enter.  Sponsors for the challenge are: Inspiration Emporium.  Better get my skates on as I have to hop on over to leave each of the Curiosity Crew a bit of love for all their inspirational work.

Not sure if my entry will count as I am ashamed to say that I bought my Distress Powders quite a few years ago and the ones I used on this card had never even been opened.  I did check and he still has these colours which I used.  Frayed Burlap, Spiced Marmalade, Broken China, Scattered Straw and Aged Mahogany.

I would love it if you hopped on over to see all the DT’s work as they are simply stunning.  Also don’t forget that the winner of the FSC challenge has $20 to choose anything they like from Flonz’s store.

Mrs Peachy Paper – The Pop Up Tag Box

Mrs Peachy Paper here doing the post today because I know she won’t have time to show what she made me into at the Tuesday Skype session with Irene unless I do it.  Finally, she got around to using me after buying me way back when.

Mrs C spent the night at her crafty friend’s house and has cancelled her class for today.  She’s off on one of her jolly crafting jaunts and the venue is nearer crafty friend’s house than hers.  I presume that means the kettle is on the go all day, cakes, sandwiches, laughter and lots of crafting!!!!

Can’t be a bad life if you ask me, not like all the forgotten crafty stash she has left behind gathering dust in all the far corners of her craft room.  Who knows what she will bring back with her and where is she going to put it????

Well as you remember Mr Box (here) did a post in July so this is one for the girls.

Whilst she was mooching through her hoarded stash I saw a smile alight upon her face when her fingers touched me.  (Give her credit, we might gather dust but she looks after us and she loves all her stash to bits.)  The thought entered my head that at last it was my turn to be transformed into something totally awesome.  You could say that I am predominantly peach (bordering on the orange shade) with brown images all over me, stunningly beautiful comes to mind.  Now I know I am only a piece of paper but she has transformed me into something that will proudly be displayed on her work desk.  What am I now you ask??

Mrs Peachy Paper transformed into a Pop Up Tag Box.

When I am opened, up pops a display of tags, very clever really.  The box is designed to house seven tags (more or less if you want) and the Sizzix Tag and Bookplates die is perfect for this.  Her next project is to design one that will house ATC’s.  Just love the way my box lid folds down flat then up jumps what’s hiding inside.  Neat eh!!!!

She has used other elements and papers but it is me … MRS PEACH … who is the main focal point on the box.

OK, stop crying stash, your time will come soon I promise!!!!

She made another pop up tag thingy about four years ago, see the link here – my how her style has changed!!!

Tag Box 2Tag Box 1

Can you believe when I accessed her photo’s all she had taken was two and both of these are of one of the tags that goes inside.  If you look closely you can see me nestled behind the tag.  Mrs C and I will be having words when she gets home tonight!!!  This means that you will have to come back and see me another time.  Let’s hope Mrs C likes my post  😉

Our First Skype Session

Been on at my SIL for sooooo long that I had given up that it was ever going to happen but yayyyyy it has and long may it last.  She finally got a web cam!!!!!!!

What a day my SIL Irene and I had two weeks ago.  We had our very first  ‘Crafty Skype Day’  and what a day it was.  We started at 10 in the morning and finished at 4 in the afternoon.  We didn’t want to either but we both thought that maybe we should start making the dinner for the other halves.  Below is what we made.  Well this is what I made and it won’t be long before you can see what Irene’s looks like because I am pleased to say she is going to be back blogging again soon.

So much fun was had that we are doing it each week.  You should see what we made this week it’s just gorgeous.  A bit more scruffy and distressed than the make below.

It’s just like having Irene in the room with me.  We trot off to have a coffee, then eat our lunch … maybe hang out some washing all in between our crafting.  Irene is a fabulous crafter but she lacks the confidence to use all her crafty stash and that’s just what I make her do.

Showing front and back of the album first with loads of scrummy stamping.  I used the Cinch to bind mine and Irene used the Bind-It-All plus my colours are mainly black, red and brown whereas hers are more purply, I think.  So long ago I’ve been asleep since then.

Used a couple of Tim Holtz pics for inside but changed the lady as she didn’t match the page opposite.  I whitened all of one side which turned out just right.

The flowered page is the back of a SU envelope with a SU stamped white embossed flower before colouring in with a white chalk pen also from Stampin Up.

Thought I would add a male page with the yummy new stamps from SU called Traveler.

Loads more pages but I think you have seen enough for one day.

Watch out for more projects because as I said this is a weekly Skype Craft Day.

Bring On The Sunshine For Those Crafting Days

Off for a sleep over tomorrow with my crafty friend, feel like a teenager again when I say that.

Can anyone remember those weekend sleepovers when you were younger?  I’m sure it definitely wasn’t craft on the mind then, as far as I can remember me thinks boys were the main topic of conversation!!!

Summer for the schoolkids here starts really early (compared to the UK) because today is their last day of school until September.  Can you Adam and Eve it, nearly three months off!!  My crafty friend works full time at a school so she has all the school holidays off … wahoooo … lots of lazy crafting days ahead and a holiday to look forward to.

New Home For G45 And Tim

In the end this turned out to be a project that just didn’t stop.
*** Heavy on photos which is so unlike me as you all know I am not a fan of taking them ***

Desperately wanted somewhere to keep my ephemera goodies of Tim’s and also wanted to decorate the box which I bought from the MDF man at Ally Pally in 2012 … yep had it that long.  The goodies fitted perfectly in the box, which you can see here if you want to see the post.  This left a lot of room at the top so next came the album.

Finally cut into the Menagerie paper pad  which wasn’t as bad as I first thought, what is it with me and papers?  I am always the last to show off papers used because I can’t bring myself to show them the scissors.  Used a variety of G45 papers from different pads which was teamed up with Tim’s.

Lots of stamping, fussy cutting, pasting through stencils and painting with pearlised translucent paint leaves me one happy bunny.  Totally love this album so keeping it for myself oh and the box, sorry Amber!!

InsideG45 Album1

See how much space was left even after adding Tim’s ephemera packs so I  designed the album to fit perfectly and to leave room so it comes out easily.

Remember all the rage about faux leather well I have lots made and that’s how I did the strap for the buckle.   Glued two pieces together before cutting to the right size and stitching around for added strength.
