FSC Is Saying – Thanks/Gratitude

The first challenge of the New Year at FSC this month is ‘Thanks/Gratitude’.  The lovely Esther picked the new theme.

Made my card along the same lines as my previous post.

The circle this time has been made using a different background stamp and only three colours are used.  The words THANK YOU you are stamped over the top.  A very pretty floral stamp from Stampin Up adds extra dimension over the inking and stenciling.

For the floral and butterfly corsage I added white acrylic paint to the tips.  The butterflies were cut from kraft cardstock.

Next I masked off the whole of the card before spraying only the corsage with dylusions White Linen ink spray.

FSC Wants To See Your Backgrounds

The new challenge at FSC this month is to ‘Make Your Own Background’.  We have the lovely Avril to thank for the new theme so please check out those amazing backgrounds that all the design team have made for your inspiration.

Below is the canvas I made whilst Skyping with Dot the other week and oh my what fun we had.

We decided to enter both canvases as our DT makes for FSC.  Click to see all the details of the first post.

As you can see I did all the spraying of the flowers off page (just didn’t want my little mits to get all messy) then arranged when I had completed the canvas.

Isn’t that stamped face so beautiful, it’s from the Donna Downey Studios called ‘She Is’.  Only used her twice, the other time on a journaling page here.

Found the bangle covering her eye in a flea market about four years ago and I just knew I would find a use for it someday.

The tissue paper was also out in force as well as the corrugated cardboard, molding paste and torn out pages from a book … all the usual!!!

Thanks Dot for a truly unforgettable morning – can’t wait for more!!!

Winter In Paris

The new challenge at FSC  this month is ‘Winter In Paris’.  Our lovely Dani chose the new theme and oh my the design team have really made the catwalk come alive with their stunning pieces.

It’s a great feeling when you dust off some old stamps and use them again and that’s just what happened with these Clarity ones.  Used to use them a lot yonks ago but sadly over the years they have just lain in a drawer.  I am sure they were probably the first stamps I bought on my very first foray to Ally Pally (quite some years ago now).  Also met the lovely Barbara Gray who was demonstrating them (she wasn’t so famous at the time) but needless to say I had to have them.

Another one layer card and the other stamps used are the trees and sun from Stampin Up plus the stenciled image ‘Francais’ is from DecoArt.

Stamped the lady first then masked off to protect her whilst doing all the other inking and stencilling behind her back … lol.

Those Seasons Are A Changing

The new challenge at FSC  this month is ‘Changing Seasons’.  Our very own sweet Claire chose the new theme and wow how the design team have really made the catwalk pop with their stunning pieces.

My chosen season is Winter where I decided to bring a little festive cheer with crackers in a box.

Two to be precise, one for him and one for her – but it turned out to be two for her in the end!  To tell the truth I wanted them to look pretty and the man’s cracker I made didn’t do it for me.

3

The crackers were made with a Stampin Up Envelope Board.  They had to be made first so that I could measure them for the box.  Put them side by side so that I could measure the length, width and height.  The lid also has an aperture cut in where acetate was added.

I had a little time to take some before and after pics.

#1 pic  Just a few of the items I started with.

#2 pic  The cardstock all cut out and ready to make the box.  At this stage I did a fine misting of dylusions White Linen Ink all over.

#3 pic  Final stage before putting the box together.  Stamped a mixture of different snowflakes and a sentiment with DecoArt Titanium (Snow) White acrylic paint.  The effect looks amazing.

FSC Are Having Words

After having my craft room re-modelled here I am still on a mission to tidy the items in it.

The embossing folders were next in line for being re-organised they used to look like this.

1

Now they look like this.

1_edited

After deciding what my storage box was going to look like I measured the largest embossing folder, which is a Spellbinders M-Bossibilities, then went from there.  Worked out how many compartments were needed before cutting all the bits from greyboard.  The hinges were made from blue heavy cardstock.

The overall size of the box is 12 3/4″  x 6 1/2″.

1_edited

Tidied everything away before giving the whole thing a paint of black gesso.

Not sure why but no matter how careful I am that black gesso seems to get everywhere, is it only me or do you have the same problem???

When decorating the box I realised it would fit very nicely for FSC’s next challenge which is words.

Yes that’s right FSC  are having ‘WORDS’  …

… now I know what you are thinking but they are not the argumentative kind.  The FSC design team are all so very warm and thoughtful that cross words are unheard of.

LL chose the theme (lovely Laura) and what a popular one it is as we all love to add words to our projects.  These can be sentiments, quotes or even a poem like Dot has chosen for her make.

Words are so very powerful, they can stimulate and animate people and that’s what FSC would like to see in your makes this month.

Definitely sitting proudly on my desk with a few other things I have made, can you remember the paint brush holder here.

What you haven’t seen before is the book ends that hold my collection of Compendium of Curiosities books – I just never got around to doing a post on these.

The sides can be seen on the desk so used stamps which I particularly like.

My next project is a box to hold my stencils in!!!!

Still In The Holiday Mood

Very short and sweet today because having been away for three weeks I am behind with just about everything.

Spent a few days with the family before we all flew out to Turkey for two weeks.  The weather and holiday were amazing so I won’t bore you with the details but I may post some photos later on down the line.

How appropriate is the theme this month at FSC  ‘Seaside Or Beach’  so my inspirational make is a postcard.

The Saturday Class Was ‘All About The Men’

The FSC challenge this month is All About The Men and again I have combined my card with the Saturday class (two birds with one stone and all that)!!!

To enhance the background I dry embossed onto black cardstock, then using the best tool ever … (my own little itsy bitsy index finger) delicately proceeded to spread gilding wax over everything to highlight the clocks.  Next using the same delicate little itsy bitsy index finger (cleaned it first) dipped it into the Gesso pot and lightly feathered it over the edges.

Definitely not a fan of using mirri card but sometimes a piece just cries out for it and this was that time.  Mat and layered it behind the background and also the stamped images.  You can find the handsome suave hunk (George Clooney lookalike) here.

We had a real disruption in the class this week … Crafty Friend Turned Up … and to say it was raucous would be an understatement.  We probably laughed all through the making of each piece and how anyone got anything made is a mystery to me.

Here is the second card they made.  This time there was lots of inking, white embossing and stencilling going on plus the ripping of vellum.

I would love it if you hopped on over to see all the DT’s work as they are simply stunning.  Also don’t forget that the winner of this challenge has $20 to choose anything they like from Flonz’s store.

We have more news for you.

Also starting from today FSC is changing to monthly.  Each challenge will now be starting the second Sunday of the month.

Time to have a look at what I have made for the 100th challenge and what you could possibly win.

As you know I love making kinetic cards and this one is another of those.  When finished it fits into a DL envelope perfectly.  Used the same inks to colour her in as I did on the ladies.

It is a cascading card and is meant to make the Runway stamps look as if they are on a catwalk.  It kinda worked!!!  The front has this glamourous stamp which you can find here, used her on this card here and I loved her so much that I just knew she was going on the front of my make for this challenge.  Used the same inks to colour her in as I did on the stamped ladies.

Very photo heavy but I wanted to try and show the flowing element of the card.  Stood above the piece and took a photo which shows the layers better.

Can you guess why there is not much inking around the edges?  It’s because the girls made this yesterday as their class make.

I can honestly say they loved making it but don’t worry I made sure they didn’t handle it as I wanted no inky smudges to spoil it.

Lastly here are the two back pages.  There is also a blank page behind the Paris image which I left deliberately because whoever wins this I will be writing a little something and signing it.  Good Luck everyone and you have one month so don’t forget to enter this challenge.

Up Up And Away

I have just come back from the most fabulous 10 day holiday where Irene, Paul, Andrew and myself toured around the West Coast of Ireland.

Started the trip by driving to the North, Portrush, where we visited the Giant’s Causeway then on to Sligo via Donegal.

We also stopped off at Mullaghmore … they had a little craft shop which was a surprise!!  We then made our way along the Wild Atlantic Way to Achill Island which is too stunning for words and stayed at the best B & B ever.  All the other stopovers were 4 star hotels but they weren’t a patch on the B & B.

Making our way down to Galway we just had to make a stop at Toormakeady where we visited the most fantastic craft shop called Create With Kate (the boys were very good about this) lol.  Kate made us soooo welcome with tea/coffee and cakes, fantastic.  I can highly recommend you visit Kate’s shop if you come to Ireland (and can find it!).

Next came Limerick but before then we visited the Cliffs Of Moher which were breathtaking, then made our way to Cork.  Before leaving Cork we visited Blarney Castle where Paul kissed the Blarney Stone but Irene chickened out.  Andrew and myself climbed all the way to the top of the castle but no way were we kissing the Blarney Stone!!!

We were so close to Tipperary (10 kilometers) but no time left to visit, this will be for another time.  On to Kilkenny then back home to Gorey.  Fabulous break.

Fashionable Stamping Challenges this fortnight has a theme of  ‘Person or Persons’    My lovely teamie sister Amanda chose this fantastic theme.

I would love it if you hopped on over to see all the DT’s work as they are simply stunning.  Also don’t forget that the winner of this challenge has $20 to choose anything they like from Flonz’s store.

Things With Wings

Fashionable Stamping Challenges this fortnight has a theme of  ‘Things With Wings’    My lovely teamie sister Avril chose this very popular theme.

Another storage box for my craft room, this one is going to house some of my stamps, actually the Crafty Individuals ones fit it perfectly.

Bought an MDF storage kit from Stamps Away at Ally Pally it came in a pack of four very very cheap.  I have made them all up and painted each with black gesso but this is the first I have finished completely.

Box 1

Embossed some cardstock which I used to cover the inside and painted with black gesso before adding some White Fire Treasured Gold gilding wax.  Also added the same to the edges.

Stamps used are from Flonz Crafts, Stampers Anonymous and Artistic Outpost.
