Sadly my Mum passed away 14 years ago and even though she married an Englishman and lived in England for most of her life she was a Scot through and through. Two of my brothers were born in Scotland and I can remember many nostalgic summer holidays on the banks of Loch Lomond with my Granddad and cousins. If Mum were alive today I definitely know which way she would have voted in the Scottish referendum!!!!
This is my Mum with two of my brothers,Robert and David. Mum was extremely beautiful and had the most luxurious thick curly hair. My granddaughter Amber has inherited her Great Grandmothers pretty looks and also her thick curly hair.
Fashionable Stamping Challenges this fortnight have a theme of “Trees In Autumn Colours”.
The background of trees is from Stampin Up called – Lovely As A Tree and the adorable young lady reading is from Flonzcrafts here. Coloured her with copics and used black and white gesso for the hair. She is also sitting on a bed of distress powders. Stamped the leaves from the SU French Foliage and cut out before sprinkling with the effect powders. Used G45 papers for the background.
Used Tim Holtz distress effect powders then I found that CC3C has a challenge for these.
Entering For: Compendium Of Curiosities 3, Challenge II – Effect Powders Technique which can be found on Page 52 of his book. You can also see all the details of how to enter. Sponsors for the challenge are: Inspiration Emporium. Better get my skates on as I have to hop on over to leave each of the Curiosity Crew a bit of love for all their inspirational work.
Not sure if my entry will count as I am ashamed to say that I bought my Distress Powders quite a few years ago and the ones I used on this card had never even been opened. I did check and he still has these colours which I used. Frayed Burlap, Spiced Marmalade, Broken China, Scattered Straw and Aged Mahogany.
I would love it if you hopped on over to see all the DT’s work as they are simply stunning. Also don’t forget that the winner of the FSC challenge has $20 to choose anything they like from Flonz’s store.
Shirl, your Mum was indeed a beautiful lady, love this photo and your brothers look so cute. Great autumn colours, and perfect quote.

Hi Shirl…wow, this has such a wonderful richness in tone to it. Absolutely beautiful. I think maybe you have inherited some of your mum’s thick hair too maybe? Such a beautiful photo.

What a beautiful photo and lovely tribute to your mum Shirl.. Thanks for sharing such personal and deep feelings with us on your blog. I’ve been only one time in Scotland, but keep wonderful memories of your country. And I’ve read a book very striking called ‘Les Cendres d’Angela’ de Frank MacCourt.. I loved it, great story.
And your card is very lovely! Hugs, Coco xxx

Hi Shirl. Your photo of your Mum and two brothers is absolutely precious. What a keepsake! I’m sorry for her passing….something we never quite get over, is it? Your card that you have created for Compendium of Curiosities III is so pretty. You’ve done a wonderful job of using Tim’s EP technique on several pieces and they are wonderful. I love the texture that they add to any piece. Thanks so much for sharing a little bit of yourself and your work with all of us at CC3C. <3 Candy
Shirl, thanks for sharing about your Mum – we never stop missing them once they are gone, do we? The photo is fabulous, and she seems like such a caring person. Your artwork is especially appropriate, with a beautiful sentiment, and gorgeous scene! Your mum would have loved seeing the preciousness of your heart so openly revealed in your magnificently creative artwork. I’m grateful to her for giving the rest of us “you”. hugs, de
